Resources
Check out our newest resource to support literacy classrooms. The literacy orientation kit explores teaching EAL/ESL literacy. The kit is designed to be accessible and clear for instructors who are new to teaching EAL literacy but robust enough to support more experienced instructors. The first section is a “quick start” guide, and the other 9 sections explore this information in greater detail. Key topics include learners, levels, approaches and resources. The kit will be updated as needed over time.
Explore the kit by clicking: literacy.language.ca
The newest PD sessions available for programs are now available for Lead Teachers to deliver. One session focuses on literacy support called Getting Started with Literacy Learners and the other session covers important considerations around AI called AI and Professional Judgement in PBLA.
The Center has produced 50 module plans and 50 sample lessons as part of the Lignes directrices nationales du curriculum CLIC. Visit CLIC.language.ca to access the resources.

Training
Introduction to PBLA for new IRCC classroom instructors (supported training)
Course timeline: April 29th to June 3rd, 2026.
LINC classroom teachers (part-time or full-time) are eligible for training, but must have completed the CLB Bootcamp as a pre-requisite.

Guided PBLA PLAR
The PBLA Lead Teacher/Instructor Prior Learning Assessment Review (PLAR) is an alternative to the PBLA Lead Teacher/Instructor Foundation Course. The PLAR process expedites PBLA Lead Teacher/Instructor certification for individuals who are experienced in using PBLA in the classroom.
If your site has recently lost a Lead Teacher, please contact pbla.plar@language.ca to get details on certifying Lead Teachers and the process for PLAR. There will be a guided PLAR intake this winter between April-June.
Community News
On March 12, the CCLB will participate in the Metropolis conference, in Halifax, with the panel Clarity in Chaos: The Role of Language Standards in Canada’s Immigration Future.
The session will bring together experts from across sectors to examine how the language standards support Canada’s immigration system and policy consensus, how the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens are adapting to shifting immigration patterns and digitalization, and how these standards position Canada in the global immigration landscape.
If you are attending the conference, we invite you not to miss this session!
The CCLB is organizing a first-of-its-kind knowledge-sharing event focused on the NCLC. This will be a unique professional development and networking opportunity for CLIC and adult FLS instructors.
