Training
Introduction to PBLA for new IRCC classroom instructors (supported training)
Course timeline: September 24th to October 29th, 2025.
LINC classroom teachers (part-time or full-time) are eligible for training, but must have completed the CLB Bootcamp as a pre-requisite.
Registrations are only accepted from program coordinators by emailing: PBLA@language.ca after the call for participants is received in early September.
Guided PBLA PLAR
The PBLA Lead Teacher/Instructor Prior Learning Assessment Review (PLAR) is an alternative to the PBLA Lead Teacher/Instructor Foundation Course. The PLAR process expedites PBLA Lead Teacher/Instructor certification for individuals who are experienced in using PBLA in the classroom.
If your site has a need for a new PBLA Lead Teacher, please contact pbla.plar@language.ca to get details on the guided PLAR intake this fall.

We are pleased to announce a series of three upcoming webinars on artificial intelligence in CLIC classrooms:
- Webinar 1: August 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time): Technologie et fonctionnalités IA (Intelligence Artificielle).
- Webinar 2: September 25th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m (Eastern Time) : IA en action : Innover dans vos cours de langues secondes – Partie 1 : Découvrez et testez des outils d’IA pour dynamiser vos cours CLIC.
- Webinar 3: October 16th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time): IA en action : Innover dans vos cours de langues secondes – Partie 2 : Mettez en pratique l’IA avec des tâches concrètes et applicables en salle de classe.
These webinars offer an introduction to concrete tools, practical ideas, and reflections on integrating AI into your teaching approaches. They are open to partners working in the CLIC programs. To register, please email: fziadi@language.ca.

As part of Tutela’s webinar series, the CCLB hosted the Professional Learning session: Exploring Skill Using Tasks. You can find the recording under the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks Webinar Recordings collection.
This webinar:
- reviews the definition of skill-building activities and skill-using tasks
- explores the difference between skill-using and assessment tasks
- provides participants with the opportunity to discuss the role of skill-using tasks in the teaching/learning process within a PBLA classroom

Your voice counts: take part in the modernization of the CLB, NCLC and literacy frameworks!
The CCLB will undertake national consultations this fall. Our goal is to gather your opinions and perspectives in order to modernize the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)/Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) and CLB: ESL for Adult Literacy Learners (ALL)/NCLC : français langue seconde pour adultes moins alphabétisés (NCLC : FLS pour AMA) frameworks.
To enable you to have your say, several avenues of participation will be offered:
- An online survey will be distributed in September.
- An online forum will also be available for you to share your ideas.
For CLB, In-person consultations will be held between September and October. Separate online consultations will be held in November. The in-person consultations will take place in:
- Vancouver: September 22 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Calgary: September 23 (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, local time)
- Regina: September 25 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Winnipeg: September 26 (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, local time)
- Moncton: October 1 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Halifax: October 2 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- St. John’s: October 6 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Toronto: October 21 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Ottawa: October 22 (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, local time)
For NCLC, In-person/online consultations will be held in four cities across Canada during the month of October:
- Bathurst: October 20th (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Ottawa: October 22nd (9:30 am – 12:30 pm, local time)
- Calgary: October 27th (9:00 am – 12:00 pm, local time)
- Winnipeg: October 28th (8:30am – 11:30 am, local time)
Please note that space is limited, and submitting this registration form does not guarantee a spot at the in-person consultation. All registrants will be notified of their status once the selection process is complete.
