Assessor training in Ontario

CCLB continues to work with both the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade (MCIIT) and Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral System (CLARS) centres in Ontario regarding training needs for assessors related to CLBPT, CLBLPT and WLA. We have started connecting with sites for updated assessor information to ensure all assessors have access to the assessor webpage when it becomes available. This page will provide assessors with additional support and opportunities to share feedback, questions and advice on various CCLB assessment tools.

Between March and April, three WLA training sessions were held for CLARS assessors in Ottawa, Oakville, and Hamilton. In total, 41 assessors from CLARS centres have participated in the WLA training. With WLA training sessions now complete, CCLB is in the process of reviewing the certification samples and issuing certificates.

The WLA tool is designed to assess English language proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7 to 10 for placement into workplace-training programs or bridging programs. MCIIT funded this two-day training session in Ontario for CLARS assessors with a goal that there be at least one assessor at each CLARS centre trained to administer the WLA.
