Orientation for the Revised CLB and the CLB Support Kit for Instructors

This winter has been a busy time for CCLB. ESL teachers across the country are being introduced to the latest version of the Canadian Language Benchmarks document. Feedback on the revised CLB document and the CLB Support Kit has been very positive. Practitioners can also find the revised CLB, the Support Kit and the exemplars on

Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), Ontario Region, and the province of Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI), professional development on the revised CLB and the Support Kit to instructors in CIC-funded language training programs continues to be successful. Instructors commented on the practicality of the training for their daily lesson planning needs and provided positive feedback on the revised CLB and Support Kit as useful tools to enhance their teaching practice. CCLB trainers have conducted 21 training sessions across Ontario.

Alberta, Atlantic and Saskatchewan
With funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), CCLB continues to provide train-the-trainer sessions across Canada for CIC-funded programs. In January and February we conducted sessions in Saskatchewan (Regina and Saskatoon), Alberta (Edmonton, Calgary and Medicine Hat) and the Atlantic Provinces (Halifax, Fredericton and Charlottetown). Instructors commented on the training saying: “Very practical session, good learning activities” and “The day was excellent. It was motivating and very practical”. Another individual said: “A wonderful workshop, really beneficial to all instructors and program administrators”. Alberta Human Services is providing additional funding to CCLB to offer three one-day trainthe- trainer sessions on the revised CLB with support kits to sixty participants from Alberta non-LINC service provider organizations.

British Columbia
