Implementation and promotion of Work Ready: CLB Resource kit for counselling and hiring immigrants

Project Description

In 2006-2007, the CCLB, with funding from British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia with in-kind support from Manitoba, has developed Work Ready: CLB Resource Kit for Counselling and Hiring Immigrants. This kit provides resources, information, and practical tools to inform counselling and hiring decisions.

The kit consists of eleven sections or books and is presented in a web-based and a binder format. It is intended as a resource for counselors, Human Resource practitioners, trainers and employers. The kit includes an introduction to the Canadian Language Benchmarks, reasons for hiring immigrants, best hiring and training practices, communication and hiring strategies. The kit also provides helpful language-based tips and resources for those employing, working with, or training immigrants. It integrates opinions and feedback from learners as well as case studies.

The kit was field-tested in the counselling and employment sectors.

In 2007-2008, with funding from the governments of Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Ontario, CCLB will do the following:

  • Promote the kit in the counselling and employment sectors;
  • Track the usefulness of the kit;
  • Expand the content to reflect feedback from the field-testing;
  • Keep the kit current through the on-line facilitation of discussion groups, regular up-dating of news items and the events calendar, and updated links on website.
