Literacy Placement Tool (LPT)

The Canadian Language Benchmarks Literacy Placement Tools are standardized assessment tools to help place learners on the national literacy benchmark scale. 

The LPT - Volume 1 is based on the Foundation and Phase I levels of the Canadian Language Benchmarks 2000:  ESL For Literacy Learners. 

The LPT - Volume 2 is based on the Foundation and Phase II levels of the Canadian Language Benchmarks 2000:  ESL For Literacy Learners. 

Developed for and by ESL assessors and literacy practitioners, the LPT complements other CLB assessment tools for appropriate placement into ESL Literacy programs. 

The LPT - Volumes 1 and 2:

• contain reading, writing and numeracy tasks
• scores on easy to use LPT scoring logs
• provide standardized instructions for consistent, fair assessments
• facilitate placement into ESL literacy programs from Foundation to Phase II
• provide a checklist fromof reading, writing and numeracy skills
• help plan more targeted literacy training

LPT - Volume 2 provides tasks suited for assessment of clients in re-skilling program.
