The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (CCLB) establishes and maintains standards to govern a comprehensive national CLB assessment system based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for use in adult ESL, education, training and labour market.

The CCLB provides a system of recognition for assessors and assessment service providers throughout Canada including:

• training and certification of CLB assessors
• licensing of CLB assessment sites

The CCLB works closely with Assessment Centres that are located in every province of Canada. The Assessment Centres employ certified CLB assessors to administer the Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment, the Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test, and the Canadian Language Benchmarks Literacy Assessment.

The CLB assessors test learners’ language skills and recommend placement in an ESL program suitable to the learners’ abilities, interests and needs.
